Chapel Hill automates walk signals to protect public health

The Town of Chapel Hill, under a stay-at-home order, automated its pedestrian crossings on some downtown streets, covering many of the buttons typically used to activate the signal. The change was made due to residents’ concerns about public health amid the coronavirus outbreak. By automating the processes, no hands should touch the machines and potentially spread germs among pedestrians.
