The city of Mombasa, together with TUMI, is converting the Makadara Road to a temporary pedestrian zone. The Makadara Road is a busy street with many food stalls. During the pandemic, everyday life in the neighborhood is difficult, as high traffic and close contact between many people must be avoided. Nevertheless, the restaurants and eating areas represent an essential part of the public and social life as well as the supply of the population. Through the implementation of a pedestrian zone, public life on the street can be ensured while adhering to COVID-19 and physical distancing regulations.
