Edinburgh and Glasgow city councils have confirmed that they are discussing measures to provide more space for riders and walkers to be able to socially distance with the Scottish Government’s Transport Scotland Agency and cycle and footpath developers Sustrans. Redrawing of streets is being planned for when lockdown restrictions are eased.
For the nonprofit Sustrans Scotland, they are in discussions with Transport Scotland as to how they can support local authorities to reallocate road space to allow safer walking and cycling during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Glasgow City Council is actively looking at how they can introduce temporary footways and cycle paths to help support physical distancing.
