Cambridge, MA pays restaurants to make and deliver meals to people experiencing homelessness. The program launched after the city reached out to both the Harvard Square Business Association and the Central Square Business Improvement District to help organize the initiative. In its first week of operation, 1,800 individual meals were prepared by eight local restaurants and provided to eight homeless shelters and meal programs in Cambridge. Following the first week, local restaurants citywide are invited to participate in the program. Restaurants interested in participating can contact the city’s Purchasing Department.
