Los Angeles automates walk signals to protect public health

Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LDOT) deactivated pedestrian push buttons in downtown Los Angeles. The deactivation of pedestrian push buttons will expand throughout the city and be prioritized by areas with high volumes of pedestrian activity. Affected intersections now feature automatic “Walk” cycles that operate without the need for pedestrians to press crosswalk buttons. Currently, modifications of this type must be performed individually by LADOT engineers.
