China is using drones to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Drones are equipped with loudspeakers to admonish people not following public-health safety practices, such as not wearing a face mask or venturing outside unnecessarily. Drones are also being used to measure the temperature of residents in apartment buildings and spray disinfectant in public areas (e.g., buses). The drones were developed by private drone manufacturers including XAG and MicroMultiCopter. Operational guidelines for drones were developed by a variety of stakeholders including XAG Technology, DJI Agriculture (an agriculture technology company), China Agricultural Machinery Distribution Association (a national agriculture machinery distribution organization), China Agricultural University Research Centre for Medical Equipment and Application Technology and other agencies. In addition, the Hangzhou Municipal Government and its health department and facilities, Antwork (a drone company), and the Civil Aviation Administration of China developed guidelines for using drones for medical purposes.
